My name is Barbie and I am 41 years old, I have a 20 year old stepdaughter, a 10 year old boy and an incredible husband who doesn’t seem to mind my crazy. Like most families, we deal with a variety of different physical issues and challenges, but having lived with psoriasis in Michigan’s cold, dry atmosphere for the last decade, I’ve tried just about everything under the sun to relieve my skin issues. My husband and daughter have perfect hair and skin, and don’t seem to get regular illnesses or ailments, however, my son inherited my weak teeth, migraines, and some skin irritations here and there.
When my son was born, we moved from just outside of Baltimore Maryland to a little town in Michigan named Howell. Talk about a drastic change of pace. I went from working 12 hour shifts in a restaurant to navigating my way through being a stay at home mom. We didn’t have a ton of money which is mainly why I made my own baby food but I also found that making all our skincare products from natural ingredients was better for our skin problems. That’s when I started getting more into natural health and beauty and it’s been a 10 year journey of trials, successes, and failures and finding out what really works and what doesn’t.

Fast forward to today. It’s January 2025 and I work part time at a refill station ( Quartz & Company ) in Downtown Howell, Michigan. For those of you who have never heard of a refill station, it’s a zero waste store where you can refill certain items and products in reusable containers of your choice instead of purchasing and trashing your household items every time you go shopping. It’s not just about keeping the earth clean, all the products are free of harsh chemicals, the spices are fresh and organic, and most of the items in the store are locally sourced/ locally made.
Anyway, back to the blog. The owner of the refill station has all of these amazing products that my family and I have been testing out for the last 3 months. So many of these products have changed the game for us in so many ways that I felt it was my duty as a person to share my experiences with the world.
I’m still DIYing many of my household cleaning products as well as some skin and hair care products which I will be sharing with everyone too!
